Palafitos Overwater Bungalows Price
Staying in one of these luxurious overwater bungalows in Mexico will cost a decent amount of money. The price varies depending on what time of year you go, but for July it is about $1500 per night for 2 adults.
While this is on the higher end of the price range for the Riviera Maya area resorts, it is well worth it in my opinion for the luxurious accommodations, elite service, delicious food, and included activities.
The Palafitos Overwater Bungalows in Mexico would be a perfect destination for a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or even just wanting to get away from the kids for awhile. These bungalows were a gem in Mexico, and I dream about returning one day soon.
Where are the Palafitos Overwater Bungalows Located?
These relaxing overwater bungalows are located at the El Dorado Maroma Resort in the Riviera Maya of Mexico. It took us about 30 minutes to get there from the Cancun airport, but that depends on traffic, which is always unpredictable.
A bonus is the roundtrip transportation is included with your stay, so you do not need to book your own transportation. Just make sure you email them with your flight details so that someone will be waiting outside for you when you land.
Palafitos Resort
The Palafitos overwater bungalows are located at El Dorado Maroma Resort, which is an adults only resort. The bonus with staying in the overwater bungalows is that you get full access to the El Dorado Maroma Resort as well. This is a huge bonus as you have access to more restaurants, bars, pools, a spa, a gym and more.
Palafitos has its own restaurant on the ocean that you can eat at for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Only the Palafitos guests can dine there, so it was never very crowded.
The El Dorado Resort also has 4 restaurants including an Italian restaurant, a Peruvian restaurant, a Caribbean grill, and a beach club. This was nice because the Palafitos restaurant had a smaller menu, so you could find variety at the other restaurants.
We spent our days laying in the Bali beds reserved for Palafitos guests, and you could order lunch to be delivered to you so you never had to leave the beach. Drinks were also brought to you from the beach bar so you could relax and enjoy your time. The beach butler was very attentive and we never had an empty glass.
As a Palafitos guest, you can also access the spa’s hydrotherapy area free of charge. This is a great way to relax and unwind on your vacation before you have to go back to reality.

The Overwater Bungalow Rooms
The overwater bungalows were absolutely amazing. First, you walk out over the ocean on a boardwalk to get to your room. Once you enter, you enter into a small seating area with glass floors so that you can see the ocean.
Next is the bed area, which again has a glass floor area to see below. Here each night we were able to see fish swimming below. Next to the bed was the bathroom area. It had a large jacuzzi tub for two, double sinks, an enclosed toilet, and a rain shower.
The shower and toilet area again had a section of glass floor, which was interesting, but I’m not going to lie. I definitely was looking for sea creatures while I was in there. The rain shower was heavenly. I still dream about the rain shower and am considering a remodel of my own shower if I can find a similar shower head.
Off of the bathroom was an outdoor shower next to the plunge pool. There was a wrap around deck that led down to the ocean for your own private entrance. There were also two sun chairs to lounge on, and the butler made sure we had fresh towels on them each day. This was a great area to lounge in if you wanted to be away from other people and have alone time.

Maroma Beach Club
Nextdoor to the resort is the Maroma Beach Club. This is an exclusive beach club that you can pay $100 per day to enter, but for Palafitos guests, is included with your stay! The Maroma Beach Club has white, powdery sand, crystal blue water, and activities you can partake in while there.
You can take a catamaran snorkeling tour while at Maroma Beach Club, and as a Palafitos guest, one tour is included for free. We booked this with the Palafitos concierge at check in. They took us out on the ocean for 3 hours, and we went to the reef to snorkel. Unlimited drinks are also included in the tour. Make sure you bring sunglasses and sunblock because the sun was beaming out on the ocean.
Other activities include paddle boards and kayaks. You also have access to sun loungers, but if you want a Bali bed, those are an extra cost.
The Maroma Beach Club offers a daily buffet of delicious foods including breakfast foods, ceviche, authentic Mexican cuisine, burgers, aguas frescas, and more. We went to the beach club everyday during our stay for lunch because the food was that good.
On Saturdays and Sundays, they had a little bit of an expanded menu which, to my enjoyment, included churros. How can you be in Mexico and NOT have churros for breakfast!? So much deliciousness in that tiny cinnamon and sugar stick. I will not admit to how many I ate, but I left extremely happy.

Included Extra Activities at Palafitos
As mentioned above you get to enter Maroma Beach Club each day if you desire, and this is where you will will board the catamaran for your snorkeling trip. If you are one for water sports, you can also book a wave runner and go on a guided tour of the Maroma Beach area.
As a Palafitos guest you can also take an excursion to an Ecotourism Ranch where you can interact with rescued animals and swim in a natural spring. If you would like to go horseback riding while there, that is an additional cost.
If you have always wanted to visit a cenote while in Mexico, look no further. A cenote trip is also included in your stay. You will get to swim through underground caves and experience these natural wonders formed over 5 million years ago. The cenotes trip also offers ziplining, however that is not included in the tour and will be an extra cost.
Final Thoughts
The Palafitos Overwater Bungalows were amazing. This has been the best adults-only vacation we have taken so far. Stunning views and romantic vibes make this a vacation to remember. We cannot wait to return and feel the soft powdery sand between our toes.
