Waterparks and Amusement Parks

Aqua Nick

This water park was built featuring some of Nickelodeon’s iconic characters. This water park is located in Puerto Morelos, about 20 minutes south of Cancun. This water park is one of the best things to do when in Cancun if you have kids.

There are many different water activities with an area dedicated to smaller children, all the way to water slides for older kids, teens, and adults. The main water attraction at the park is Sponge Bob themed, so your children will love it if they love Sponge Bob. There is also a lazy river that goes around the park.

Areas of Cancun

Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera)

This long strip of beautiful beaches, hotels, restaurants, and shops is where most visitors stay and play. It’s lively during the day and night with plenty to do, from beach lounging to nightlife.

This area is highly concentrated with hotels and miles of soft white sand beaches and clear water. Be warned that some seasons of the year have more sargassum seaweed on the beaches than others, but shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your trip. You can explore La Isla Shopping Village to find souvenirs and enjoy some delicious authentic food. There are also many bars and clubs with live music and dancing to enjoy.

Downtown Cancun (El Centro)

For a taste of authentic local life, head to Cancun’s downtown area. It’s less touristy and bustling with markets, eateries, and cultural spots that show a different side of the city.

You can visit Market 28, a lively shopping spot filled with souvenirs and crafts, Parque Las Palapas, the heart of community events and street food, and enjoy local food stalls where you can taste traditional Mexican dishes like cochinita pibil and marquesitas.

Get all of this included in a guided tour for ease and convenience. This tour also includes a tequila tasting or artisan and flavored tequilas. My favorite was a pomegranate tequila. It is delicious and very easy to sip on.
